This qualification is nationally accredited under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).  This qualification is most suited to those who wish to work in the highly demanding and rewarding automotive industry. The course is structured thematically to enable integrated learning of concepts. Areas of study include servicing and maintenance, engine and fuel systems, clutch and transmissions, steering suspensions and brakes, general diagnostic testing, electric systems and occupational health and safety. Students will gain significant practical and theoretical skills. The practical skills will be learnt in the automotive workshop. Program outcomes will enable students to develop competencies in:

  • Diagnosing repairs for automotive operating systems through a knowledge of  testing and identification of faults in the mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems of light motor vehicles
  • Undertaking servicing and repairs on light vehicles, including engine operations, maintenance and service fuel systems, electrics, brakes, suspensions, cooling systems and transmissions
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety in automotive settings
  • Communicating effectively and working as part of a team

Entry Requirements

  • Age over 18 years
  • Satisfactory completion of Year 12 or equivalent
  • English Language proficiency of 5.5 IELTS or equivalent (international students)
  • Mature age entry with relevant industry experience may be considered

Pathways


This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a Motor Mechanic. The job title resulting from successful completion of this course includes Motor Mechanic. Students may seek trade recognition as an automotive mechanic. Employment can be sought in a range of areas including service departments of car dealership, council and government workshops and private workshops.
